Looking for a candidate with about three years of community journalism experience to be the primary news gatherer for The Journal in Crosby, and also work into supervisory role of one or two other news/sports staffers at our sister publication, the Tioga Tribune. Position will pay up to $35,000 per year for the right candidate, who would also have some aptitude for layout of two sports pages per week. The Jamestown Sun, a six-day daily, is seeking an assistant editor. Applicants must have strong editing skills, design skills and exceptional news judgment. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, knowledge of newspaper design, pagination software and a strong understanding of AP style. Skills with social media, photography, video and computers are also desired. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is insurable by the company. The assistant editor will manage the newsroom in the absence of the managing editor, participate in editorial writing, help develop story ideas, assign stories, assist in layout and proofing and lead the newspaper’s digital presence.
