About 700 pages worth of interviews with journalists from North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana capture the challenges and opportunities faced by rural newspapers in the early days of the pandemic.</p>

Every bill that would have negatively affected public notice requirements has been effectively killed either in committee or on the floor, and a bill that would have made mug shots confidential in most instances failed by a narrow margin on the House floor.</p>

Public testimony is in some cases  limited to written submissions, but that presents an opportunity: Even if you aren’t able to travel to Bismarck to testify, your outreach to legislators can have a big impact in ensuring proposed legislation that would harm the state’s newspapers is dead on arrival.</p>

The survey shows that 86 percent of North Dakota adults read a local newspaper, up 3 percent from the NDNA's last survey, in 2014.</p>
