The North Dakota Newspaper Association (NDNA) seeks an EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. NDNA represents 85 member newspapers and the public in legislative affairs -- protecting the public's right-to-know through open public meetings and open public records. NDNA also works to secure and process advertising for its members; offers a service of distributing news releases, and provides a service to clip news stories for organizations and individuals. NDNA is governed by an eight-member Board of Directors elected by member newspapers. A structure of committees, whose members are volunteers, make recommendations to the Board of Directors. As the chief executive officer for our state association, theresponsible for member contact and development, legislative/lobbying work, management of newspaper content sharing and advertising placement programs, personnel management for a staff of 5, and working with the board of directors and its member committees. This position requires an individual with consistent and effective communication and organizational skills. The Executive Director is expected to travel across the state (approximately 10% of the time) to develop relationships with member newspapers, as well as lead regional meetings. Position Description/Duties: 1. Prepare the annual budget and submit to the board of directors for their approval. Approve and direct purchases and expenditures within the limits of the board-approved budget. Provide information to the board regarding purchases and expenditures. 2. Hire, fire, evaluate and supervise all staff. Hiring of legal counsel and accounting/auditing firm will be made with the board approval. Direct staff in their assignments and duties. 3. Coordinate or supervise planning of all meetings, workshops and convention on behalf of the association. 4. Prepare the agenda for all board and committee meetings (with the assistance of the president or chairman). Attend all meetings, acting as secretary when necessary, and see that the board’s or committee’s agendas are accomplished between meetings. 5. Provide the board with adequate information to help them reach sound decisions and establish policies. Supervise the implementation of all board policies. Report regularly to the board about progress toward organizational objectives, financial status of the organization and other issues of concern to the board. 6. Represent the organization as the chief executive officer in dealings with other organizations, legislators, individuals and general public. 7. Develop short range (one year) goals for the organization. Work with the board to prepare a long range plan for the organization. NDNA offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
