The Dakota College at Bottineau football team had a tough task as they went on the road to face Iowa Central Community College last Saturday afternoon.

The Tritons proved too much for the Jacks as they took a 53-0 lead by halftime. The Jacks held steady and found some offensive success in the second half, but eventually fell to the Tritons 66-19.

The Tritons defense was strong in the first half as they scored two touchdowns on interception returns and also added two safeties.

“The Jacks had an ok start and then things fell apart for the first half,” stated coach Tim Pfeifer. “The offense had four turnovers and a couple of penalties that really hurt the Jacks. The defense played pretty good other than giving up two long touchdown passes.”

DCB’s Shazzon Mumphrey broke the dead lock in the third quarter when he scampered in from 15 yards out.

The Jacks scored once more in the third quarter as Mumphrey found sophomore wideout Jonathan Parks for a 30 yard touchdown.

After the Tritons took a 66-12 lead midway through the fourth, the Jacks found the end zone for a third time when Willie Fair punched it in from three yards out. Caleb McClinton made the extra point to put it to the final of 66-19.

“The second half the Jacks seemed to settle down and play better football,” Pfeifer stated. “We stopped turning the ball over and were able to get a couple nice drives going. The defense played another good half of football.”

Parks led the receiving corps and was a bright spot for the Jacks offense in the second half. He amassed 69 yards on six receptions. Mumphrey went 11-for-21 through the air for 138 yards with two picks and one touchdown.

Fair led the Jacks with 48 yards on the ground on 11 carries.
DCB turned the ball over five times in the game.

Kendall Jackson led the Tritons offensive attack. The quarterback was a perfect 3-for-3 for 101 yards. The Tritons also ran the ball for nearly 300 yards in the win.

“Overall the Jacks really played two totally different halves of football,” Pfeifer stated. “If we can play the whole game like the second half, then we have a chance to win some games in the future.”

DCB’s next game will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a homecoming match up against Cole College.

The Jaguars recently beat Trinity College 16-6. DCB beat Trinity 20-6 in the Jacks’ home opener on Aug. 24.
